Mike Martinez

Meet Mike!

Mike believes that individuals are inherently good. He approaches counseling by helping people realize the strengths they already have within themselves in order to bring about change. He enjoys building a relationship with clients through humor, spontaneity and creating a warm and welcoming environment.

Mike focuses on building a relationship with clients in order to better understand the individual. Once the relationship has been established, the individual can feel comfortable and confident to address more personal and serious issues in a confidential and respectful therapeutic environment.

Mike has experience working with individuals struggling with substance abuse issues, adolescents, Veterans, the elderly, and college students. Mike has experience working in both, individual and group counseling settings. He provides counseling services to people of many different backgrounds but has a particular interest in helping first-time parents transition into their new role as parents. Having recently become a father himself in 2014, Mike feels it is important for parents, particularly fathers, to have the support needed during this important and somewhat scary life change. He believes it is important to address issues as they come up in order to become a happy and healthy parent.

Groups & Specialties

Mike has experience leading therapeutic groups on empathy and problem-solving skills as well as meditation and stress management. The power of group therapy cannot be understated. There are few things more powerful than connecting with others who share similar life experiences. As humans we need to feel understood and we need to be heard. Group therapy is an excellent setting for this to take place. When this takes place in the group setting the results can have a lasting positive impact on the individual. In the future, he plans to run groups based on social skills and early fatherhood.

Mike specializes in helping new fathers transition into their important role. Fatherhood is a new and unchartered territory for many. Such an intimidating life change can cause anxiety. Mike hopes to give fathers the extra support and tools they need to become even better fathers while reducing stress and anxiety.

Mike approaches this by providing open and honest counseling with new and soon-to-be fathers. With this approach he aims to not only help the father succeed but in turn, help the whole family succeed. If you’re a new father or soon-to-be Dad, first of all, congratulations! You’ve just started one of the greatest journeys of your life! Second, remember: you are not alone.
